BENNINGTON, Vt. – The head of the Bennington Museum is resigning to take a similar position at a Connecticut museum.
The Bennington Banner reports that Robert Wolterstorff is stepping down after nearly seven years as executive director.
Wolterstorff said he’s sad to be leaving because he feels his work isn’t done. But he said he couldn’t turn down an offer to lead the larger Bruce Museum in Greenwich, Connecticut.
The chairwoman of the Bennington Museum’s board of trustees said in a written statement that the museum is sorry to lose Wolterstorff. She said he established Bennington modernism as a main focus of the museum’s mission, oversaw the creation of new galleries and started an edgier exhibition program, all of which “led to more visitors, new energy, increased support and fiscal stability.”
