RCMP dog leads the way to missing Armstrong woman

VERNON – The family of a missing Armstrong woman is happy today because a police dog who "nose" it's job was able to locate her.

RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk says the woman's mother reported her missing in the morning Sept. 10., saying she walked away from hom into the nearby woods. The mother said she worried for her daughter's safety because she suffers from mental health problems and had tried to harm herself before.

A Mountie and RCMP dog unit were sent into the Otter Lake, Fraser Roads area where the dog sniffed out the young woman hiding in the bushes near the train tracks. She was taken home and from there went to Vernon Jubilee Hospital where she's receiving treatment.

"This is the second time in the past two weeks that this dog team has successfully tracked and rescued people in the Armstrong area," Molendyk says.
