A Ford crossed over the centre line which resulted in a fatal head on collision

KAMLOOPS – Both directions of Highway 1 were closed after a car accident kills one man and sends the other to the hospital.

Yesterday, Aug. 11, at 4:26 p.m. the Kamloops RCMP, Central Interior Traffic Services, B.C. Ambulance, Kamloops Fire Rescue, Savona Fire Department and Savona First Responders attended to a two vehicle collision on the Trans Canada Highway in Savona.

According to a press release from the Central Interior Traffic Services Kamloops, investigators can confirm a Ford car crossed over the centre line which resulted in a head on collision with Mazda.

The driver of the Ford, who was alone in the car, was dead at the scene, says Sergeant Mike Pears of the Central Interior Traffic Services Kamloops. The driver of the Mazda was also alone and received undetermined injuries. He was airlifted to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops.

Sergeant Pears says the Mazda driver is local to the Savona Kamloops area while the driver of the Ford was from the Cariboo region.

A collision reconstructionist attended the scene to assist with the investigation, says Sergent Pears in a release and Central Interior Traffic Services members will continue to investigate this collision. They will also assist the B.C. Coroners service to find out what caused the Ford to cross the centre line and collide with the Mazda.

If you were a witness to this collision and have not spoken to Police please contact the Central Interior Traffic Services unit in Kamloops at 250-828-3159.
