Most actively traded companies on the TSX, TSX Venture Exchange markets

TORONTO – Some of the most active companies traded Thursday on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (12,593.96 up 107.32 points):

Energy Fuels Inc. (TSX:EFR). Uranium miner. Up three cents, or 16.67 per cent, at 21 cents on 11.22 million shares.

Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan (TSX:POT). Fertilizer producer. Up 72 cents, or 2.42 per cent, at $30.52 on 7.81 million shares.

Bombardier Inc. (TSX:BBD.B). Transportation equipment. Down a penny, or 0.20 per cent, at $4.95 on 6.64 million shares. The plane and train maker booked net income before adjustments of US$180 million or 10 cents per share, up from $147 million or eight cents per share in the same period last year. Revenue was almost unchanged at $4.4 billion.

TORC Oil and Gas Ltd. (TSX:TOG). Oil and gas. Up nine cents, or 5.92 per cent, at $1.61 on 5.91 million shares.

Connacher Oil and Gas Ltd. (TSX:CLL). Oil and gas. Down a penny, or 3.70 per cent, at 26 cents on 5.15 million shares.

Toronto Venture Exchange (921.02 up 3.68 points):

Zodiac Exploration Inc. (TSXV:ZEX). Oil explorer. Up a penny, or 15.38 per cent, at 7.5 cents on 5.93 million shares.

Iona Energy Inc. (TSXV:INA). Oil and gas. Up two cents, or four per cent, at 52 cents on 4.61 million shares.

Company reporting major news:

Barrick Gold Corp. (TSX:ABX). Miner. Up 46 cents, or 2.71 per cent, at $17.46 on 4.33 million shares. One of the world’s biggest gold miners cut its quarterly dividend to five cents US per share as gold and copper prices weakened. Adjusted earnings in the second quarter were better than analysts had been expecting but down from the year before. Barrick said it will trim costs at its project in Argentina over the 2013-2014 period.

Suncor Energy Inc. (TSX:SU). Oil and gas. Up $1.28, or 3.94 per cent, at $33.74 on 3.89 million shares. Canada’s largest energy company posted a profit of $680 million or 45 cents per share in the second quarter, significantly up from $324 million or 21 cents per share a year earlier when it took a $694 million writedown.

TransCanada Corp. (TSX:TRP). Pipeline. Up $1.08, or 2.30 per cent, at $48.01 on 2.86 million shares on news it is going ahead with its largest project in its history: the Energy East pipeline. The $12-billion plan will ship up to 1.1 million barrels per day of western oil to Quebec in 2017 and New Brunswick a year later.
