CBC weather forecaster earns world record for half-century career

HALIFAX – A Nova Scotia meteorologist and broadcaster will have his name in one of the world’s most recognizable record books after predicting the weather for more than half a century.

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s Peter Coade marked 50 years as a meteorologist in October, 2012.

It has earned him the Guinness World Record title of longest career as a weather forecaster.

The 70-year-old says he’s had a rewarding career and is thrilled with the designation.

Coade started working for the federal government’s weather service in 1962 and later took a job with CBC television.

He later moved on to Halifax-based ATV, which is now CTV, where he worked for more than 15 years.

He then re-joined the CBC in September 2007 and is currently CBC Radio One’s morning meteorologist.

The previous record holder was Dave Devall of CTV Toronto, whose career spanned more than 48 years.
