SASKATOON – Gord Perrin and Nick Hoag led Canada with 11 points apiece as it beat Korea in straight sets on Friday night in FIVB World League action.
The Canadians took the match 25-20, 25-21, 25-20.
“I think the guys stayed focused. Gord (Perrin) and Nick (Hoag) hadn’t been playing with the group (in World League) for a bit and we tried Nick as an opposite,” said Canada head coach Glenn Hoag. “Against Korea you have to be super patient and our guys showed a lot of patience. Our offence wasn’t perfect, but we did really well as a group.
“We’re pretty solid as far as I’m concerned right now.”
After a convincing first set win, Korea matched the Canadians point for point in the second. Canada held a slim 8-7 advantage at the first technical time out but strong blocking and solid attacks by Hoag, Perrin and Steven Marshall allowed the Canadians to open up their lead.
Justin Duff and Adam Simac found court up the middle for Canada in the third set, which allowed room on the outside for Perrin and Marshall.
Hoag sealed the set and the match with a convincing kill from the back row.
