Doyle, Jeffrey score as DC snaps five-game winless skid with 3-1 win over Montreal

WASHINGTON – Conor Doyle and Jared Jeffrey each scored their first professional goals to lead D.C. United to a 3-1 victory over the Montreal Impact on Saturday.

Doyle also set up Jeffrey’s stoppage-time score in the pair’s second match each for their new club.

Luis Silva also scored for United (3-15-4), who snapped a five-game winless streak and scored three goals for the first time this season.

Jed Brovsky scored his first career goal for the Impact (10-6-5), who wasted a chance to move into second place in the Eastern Conference with a victory over the last-place United.

Montreal has just one win in its past seven matches and has allowed three or more goals in five of those.

Doyle entered as a substitute in the 64th minute and put United up 2-1 four minutes later when he reached James Riley’s cross and redirected it into the net with one touch.

Doyle spent the past three seasons with English second division club Derby County, but the attacker made only 23 appearances there and never scored. United signed him on loan in July.

He then set up Jeffrey on an open breakaway in the third minute of stoppage time. Jeffrey also signed with D.C. in July after returning to his home country from German side FSV Mainz.

Montreal had tied it in the 52nd minute when Brovsky took Justin Mapp’s pass, played a quick give-and-go with Davy Arnaud and drove a low finish from close range past United goalkeeper Joe Willis.

Brovsky, a defender, is in his third season in the league.

United led 1-0 in the 19th minute when Silva reached a rebound of Nick DeLeon’s deflected shot, eluded two Montreal defenders and dragged a bouncing shot off the left post and into the net.

It was Silva’s third goal in three matches since arriving in D.C. after a July trade with Toronto F.C. He’s already the leading scorer for United, which has scored a league-worst 13 goals this season.
