Canada advances to knockout stage of CONCACAF U20 soccer tournament
TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras – Canada advanced to the round of 16 at the CONCACAF men’s under-20 soccer championship with a 4-0 win over St. Kitts and Nevis on Wednesday.
Tiago Coimbra opened scoring for Canada in the 59th minute, and Matthew Catavolo made it 2-0 in the 65th.
Lowell Wright’s 78th-minute goal gave Canada a 3-0 lead, and Mael Henry capped the scoring two minutes later.
Goalkeeper Ben Alexander picked up the clean sheet as Canada outshot St. Kitts and Nevis 30-5, 12-1 on target.
Canada finished third in Group E with four points (1-1-1) behind Cuba and the United States. St. Kitts and Nevis lost all three of its group stage matches and was eliminated from the tournament.
The competition’s knockout stage begins Saturday.
