OKANAGAN – The Great Ogopogo Bathtub Race is taking place on Okanagan Lake in Summerland this weekend.
This Saturday, Aug 17, more than a dozen bathtubbers are participating in a race hosted by the Summerland Yacht Club.
The race is a three-kilometre course on Okanagan Lake that will have 22 entrants races past Powell Beach in Trout Creek.
Racers will head north from Powell Beach towards the Summerland hill on Highway 97, then east towards Naramata, before returning to the starting point says spokesman Jim Cavin. Each race will consist of 8-10 laps depending on weather conditions.

This event has been organised for families and has a variety of children's activities such as sand sculpting and music. From 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. there will be a pancake breakfast. By 3 p.m. races should have concluded and there will be an awards banquet that night at the Summerland Yacht Club.
The release states, the Great Ogopogo Bathtub Race has been a huge success since its debut in 2015. The race has raised $44,000 for the South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation’s campaign to provide the medical equipment for the $312-million Penticton Regional Hospital expansion.
The new PRH tower will be ready for patients in early 2019.
