Canada Games Aquatic Centre’s maintenance postponed

KAMLOOPS – In response to air quality conditions in Kamloops the scheduled maintenance of the Canada Games Aquatic Centre will be postponed.

The regular shutdown of the Canada Games Aquatic Centre will be done in mid-December, according to a City of Kamloops media release issued today, Aug. 18.

Normally the pool is shut down for maintenance two weeks prior to the Labour Day long weekend in September, however, this year will be different due to fluctuating air quality in Kamloops thanks to the wildfire smoke.

“We are happy to be able to hold off on regular maintenance until later this year to ensure Kamloops residents and visitors can access indoor activities," Parks and Civic Facilities manager Jeff Putnam says in the release.

In the meantime, the pool will be closed on Sunday, Sept. 3 for one day of cleaning and general maintenance. On Monday, Sept. 4 the pool will also be closed for the statutory holiday.

Putnam says the City recognizes the need for indoor activities in response to the smoky conditions in Kamloops and the fluctuating air quality.

Before the pool shuts down in December, when the dates are confirmed, the City will provide advanced notice.

The City is reminding wildfire evacuees who are staying in Kamloops they can swim and shower for free at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre but they must remember to bring valid ID.
