Most actively traded companies on the TSX, TSX Venture Exchange markets
TORONTO – Some of the most active companies traded Tuesday on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange:
Toronto Stock Exchange (12,469.32 down 133.93 points):
Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan (TSX:POT). Fertilizer producer. Up 50 cents, or 1.66 per cent, at $30.54 on 22.82 million shares. The company’s stock is gaining back some of its losses from last week when it closed at its lowest level in five years. Potash companies have been on the spotlight since Russian producer Uralkali announced earlier last week that it will pull out of a marketing consortium, which will result in lower potash prices.
Bombardier Inc. (TSX:BBD.B). Transportation equipment. Up two cents, or 0.41 per cent, at $4.90 on 6.56 million shares.
BioExx Specialty Proteins Ltd. (TSX:BXI). Biotechnology. Down 0.25 of a cent, or 20 per cent, at one penny on 5.8 million shares.
Yamana Gold Inc. (TSX:YRI). Miner. Down 65 cents, or 6.53 per cent, at $9.31 on 4.02 million shares. The gold sector dropped 6.11 per cent to 165.32 points after the price of bullion slid to its lowest level since mid-July. The December contract fell US$19.90 to $1,282.50 per ounce on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
TORC Oil and Gas Ltd. (TSX:TOG). Oil and gas. Down two cents, or 1.27 per cent, at $1.55 on 3.34 million shares. The Calgary-based company announced it closed financings worth a total of $412 million. The money raised will be used to purchase assets in southeast Saskatchewan from an “independent intermediate oil and gas company” pegged at $510 million announced last month.
Toronto Venture Exchange (912.83 down 10.73 points):
Alberta Oilsands Inc. (TSXV:AOS). Oilsands. Up 1.5 cents, or 9.68 per cent, at 17 cents on 4.29 million shares.
Sonoro Energy Ltd. (TSXV:SNV). Oil explorer. Unchanged at a penny on three million shares.
Company reporting major news:
Molson Coors Brewing Co. (TSX:TPX.B). Beer maker. Up $2.80, or 5.31 per cent, at $55.49 on 10,267 shares. Second-quarter profit attributable to MCBC shareholders totalled $278.4 million or $1.51 per share, up from year-earlier $105.1 million or 57 cents per share. Revenue was up 23 per cent to US$1.2 billion due primarily to the StarBev acquisition in Central and Eastern Europe.
Saputo (TSX:SAP). Dairy. Down 45 cents, or 0.94 per cent, at $47.24 on 300,725 million shares. The cheese maker warned of intense competition domestically despite benefits from a recent acquisition in the U.S. Saputo boosted its dividend 9.5 per cent to 23 cents per share after booking a profit of $136.7 million or 69 cents per share in the first quarter. That compared with $121.8 million or 60 cents per share in the year-ago period while revenue rose nearly 30 per cent to $2.17 billion.
