Kamloops police officer injured while making arrest

KAMLOOPS – A Kamloops RCMP officer is recovering after allegedly being assaulted by a suspect during an arrest.

Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says in a media release the officer attended the 400 block of Tranquille Road yesterday, Aug. 17, around 3:45 p.m.

The Mountie was attempting to arrest a 23-year-old woman for an outstanding warrant when she allegedly punched the officer several times in the head.

Shelkie says the officer deployed a conducted energy weapon, or taser, and regained control of the suspect. Other officers attended the scene and the woman was taken into custody without further incident.

The suspect was uninjured in the altercation, while the officer sustained non life-threatening injuries.

The woman remains in custody and additional charges are being considered.
