Solar eclipse will be visible from Kamloops

KAMLOOPS – Although Kamloops won't be in the path of totality during Monday's solar eclipse, you'll still be able to see it.

The partial eclipse will be viewable Monday morning, Aug. 21, and Thompson Rivers University is hosting a viewing event.

The eclipse will begin with first contact at 9:14 a.m. and will reach a maximum of 80.5 per cent coverage at 10:25 a.m. It'll end at 11:41 a.m. 

TRU's observatory on the fourth floor of the International Building will be open as a safe viewing option, according to a news release.

Special viewing glasses will be available for direct viewing, and telescopes will be available for use.

Appropriate eyewear must be worn when viewing the eclipse, even though it won't be a complete eclipse in Kamloops.

Environment Canada has forecast clear skies for Monday, and TRU says the eclipse should be observable even if there is a small amount of cloud or smoke in the sky.
