‘Downton Abbey’ star notes ‘amazing’ coincidence of series baby, royal one both named George

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. – Michelle Dockery warns against jumping to conclusions about how her character’s baby on “Downton Abbey” and the British royal infant ended up with the same name.

George proved the name of choice for the fictional boy born to Lady Mary on “Downton” and the real one in line to be the king of England.

Dockery called it an “amazing” coincidence, but said the drama’s baby was named before Prince William and his wife, Kate, picked George for their son.

And while Dockery has heard that William and Kate are fans of “Downton Abbey,” she doesn’t suspect that it inspired their choice.

“Downtown Abbey” returns for season four in Britain next month, followed by its airing on PBS in the U.S. next January. Dockery was promoting the show Tuesday while visiting Beverly Hills, California.
