Targeted robbery lands masked Kelowna teens in jail

KELOWNA – Five masked people armed with bats and pistols mugged a group of young people hanging out in Rutland Middle School grounds Saturday night.

RCMP says the robbers demanded to see what the others had on them before they took off with some items of little value.

No one was hurt.

Two of the six teenaged suspects in the case were arrested shortly after the robbery, three others turned themselves in to police on Sunday and a sixth allegedly involved in the planning the robbery is still at large, according to RCMP.

Police say it turns out the pistols were airsoft replica guns and not real firearms.

“Despite the insignificant value and lack of injury in this case, a robbery is a very serious offence and has a devastating impact on the victims,” Const. Kris Clark says in a media release.

The five teenaged boys arrested are facing charges of robbery with a firearm and disguise with intent. They spent the night in jail and appeared in court Monday.
