Man found dead near Thompson River identified

KAMLOOPS – Police have identified the man found dead in a tent next to the Thompson River last week, but his name has not been publicly released.

Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says in a news release the man's next of kin has been notified.

He has been in Kamloops for several years and was known to stay in a tent by the river.

B.C. Coroners Service is investigating the cause of death.

On Aug. 16 a passerby called police after noticing a strong odour coming from a tent near the river. When police arrived they found a man's body which was badly decomposed.

Police said drugs and paraphernalia were found inside the tent and the man's death is not considered suspicious at this point.
