Firefighters who lit campfire near Adams Lake fined, issued warnings

ADAMS LAKE – A group of B.C. Wildfire firefighters who lit a campfire on the shores of Adams Lake earlier this summer have been fined and issued warnings.

The province's Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Developments says in an emailed statement each firefighter involved was issued a fine of $1,150.

They were also issued three warning tickets by the ministry's natural resource officers.

This comes after a separate, internal investigation was completed by B.C. Wildfire. The results of that investigation have not been made public and will be kept confidential by B.C. Wildfire.

The firefighters in question came under fire after a man named Rusty Clark photographed the group of firefighters standing around a campfire near Adams Lake in the midst of a province-wide campfire ban in July.

Clark posted photographs to Facebook and an investigation by B.C. Wildfire began shortly after.

The Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Developments did not say why they conducted a separate investigation, or when it began.
