Kamloops pedestrian injured after being struck by pickup on North Shore

KAMLOOPS – A 37-year-old Kamloops man is recovering after being hit by a pickup truck while he was crossing a street on the North Shore.

Kamloops RCMP Staff Sgt. Edward Preto says in a news release the incident happened around 10:15 p.m. last night.

A white Ford 250 pickup truck was turning left from 12 Street onto Tranquille Road when it struck a Kamloops man who was crossing northbound at the crosswalk.

Preto says the pedestrian was thrown several metres by the impact and suffered cuts and bruises. He was taken to Royal Inland Hospital with not life-threatening injuries.

The man was wearing dark coloured clothing at the time of the collision and was reported to have earbuds in his ears, Preto says.

The driver, a 27-year-old Kamloops man, remained on scene. He had allegedly been drinking and was taken to the Kamloops RCMP detachment for breathalyzer tests.

Preto says police will be submitting a report to Crown recommending charges of driving with over 80 milligrams of alcohol, causing bodily harm.

The names of the pedestrian and the driver have not been made public.
