Blizzard continues at Tahoe, floods in northern Nevada

RENO, Nev. – A blizzard warning remains in effect at Lake Tahoe and some unexpected rain has prompted more flooding in parts of northern Nevada, including Reno, Sparks and Carson City.

Another half-foot or more of snow is in the forecast Wednesday at Tahoe, where more than 3 feet already has fallen and the avalanche danger remains high.

The National Weather Service says winds gusting to 100 mph over Sierra ridgetops are starting to die down, and the blizzard warning will be downgraded to a winter storm at 10 a.m.

More flooding shut down some city streets overnight in Sparks and southeast Reno. Flooding also was reported in Dayton, Carson City and other parts of Douglas County.

School was cancelled for the second day in a row at Incline Village. Classes start two hours late in the rest of Washoe County.
