TORONTO – Some of the most active companies traded Monday on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange:
Toronto Stock Exchange (12,594.27 up 52.14 points):
Marengo Mining Ltd. (TSX:MRN). Miner. Down half a cent, or 25 per cent, at 1.5 cents on 6.57 million shares.
BlackBerry (TSX:BB). Wireless technology. Up $1.08, or 10.75 per cent, at $11.13 on 6.36 million shares. Fairfax Financial Holdings Ltd. Chairman Prem Watsa, who left the board of directors of the smartphone maker this morning, is said to be exploring ways to take the company private. The board of directors announced earlier in the day that it has launched a review of “strategic alternatives” which could mean a partnership, joint venture or a sale of the company.
Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan (TSX:POT). Fertilizer producer. Up $1.02, or 3.31 per cent, at $31.87 on 5.86 million shares.
Kinross Gold Corp. (TSX:K). Miner. Up 34 cents, or 6.27 per cent, at $5.76 on 5.34 million shares. The gold sector led the advancers by percentage at 190.55 points, up 5.35 per cent as the price of bullion jumped US$22 to $1,334.20 per ounce on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
B2Gold Corp. (TSX:BTO). Gold producer. Up 13 cents, or 4.19 per cent, at $3.23 on 4.66 million shares.
Toronto Venture Exchange (925.86 up 5.77 points):
Fission Uranium Corp. (TSX:FCU). Resource explorer. Up eight cents, or 7.27 per cent, at $1.18 on 12.58 million shares. Its president and chief operating officer Ross McElroy said that results for hole PLS13-080 at R780E Zone on the Patterson Lake South property in Saskatchwan show “wide and robust mineralization.”
Solimar Energy Ltd. (TSXV:SXS). Oil and gas. Unchanged at two cents, on 5.42 million shares.

Aimia Inc. (TSX:AIM). Loyalty rewards operator. Up 63 cents, or 4.12 per cent, at $15.93 on 1.68 million shares. CIBC (TSX:CM) says it is willing to let TD Bank (TSX:TD) become the primary credit card issuer for the Aeroplan loyalty rewards program, as long as it’s allowed to keep half of the current Aerogold customers. The two rival banks and Aeroplan operator Aimia have agreed to continue talks and are aiming to have a final decision by the end of the month.
Dollarama (TSX:DOL). Discount retailer. Down $1.84, or 2.36 per cent, at $75.99 on 378,227 shares. Chief operating officer Stephane Gonthier is moving to California to become president and CEO of 99-cents Only Stores. Dollarama founder Larry Rossy will assume Gonthier’s duties on an interim basis and Gonthier will remain for a time to ensure a smooth transition.
Torstar Corp. (TSX:TS.B). Media. Up two cents, or 0.35 per cent, at $5.69 on 37,148 shares. The company has shut down two paywalled websites that covered small business and will affect about 15 employees. YourMississaugaBiz and YourHamiltonBiz will cease operations effective immediately.
