Kelowna’s mobile overdose prevention unit gets high tech gift
KELOWNA – The people using the mobile overdose prevention in unit will be able to get in touch with loved one if they wish thanks to a donation from Okanagan College.
The Okanagan College’s Enactus team calls their latest community initiative Call Home, ccording to an Okanagan College media release. It will give the Interior Health RV used for the mobile unit an unique technilogical boost.
The Enactus team noticed there was a need for better communication for some of the vulnerable people in the community, so they purchased two iPads for the mobile unit.
Project manager Zabrina Semchuk says the iPads will be a way for those using the prevention unit to connect with their loved ones if they so choose.
“Call Home is a project that serves to provide the people who are using this mobile unit with a positive opportunity to reach out to a family member or loved one that they may have not been in contact with for several years,” Semchuk in the media release.
The mobile unit was in response to the opioid crisis and was launched in late April by Interior Health .Last month more than 1,000 visitors were logged, the release states.
Enactus Okanagan College is a non-profit student run organization formed to improve the quality of life and standard of living in the Okanagan. The group develops and implements projects across the Valley.
