Police dog helps nab two suspected thieves who broke into Mission home

KELOWNA – Police have two people in custody after a residential break and enter Monday.

Kelowna RCMP surrounded the Mission area of the city after a report of a break and enter in progress in the 800 block of Wardlaw Avenue shortly after 10 a.m., Aug. 28, according to a release. They got their first suspect, a 20-year-old woman, quickly enough as she tried to flee out the front door. Police had already noticed the back door was forced open and property from the home was loaded into bags. 

Police had one more suspect to corral, however, so they tried to contain the neighbourhood. Police service dog Fitz did the rest. He tracked the 38-year-old man and once arrested, they got him red-handed. When he was searched, police found a key to a stolen Jeep SUV, parked nearby the crime scene. 

"A further search of the recovered stolen vehicle yielded further suspected stolen property along with loaded firearms," Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey says in the release. "Efforts will now be made to attempt to identify the rightful owners of the suspected stolen property seized by our investigators."

Charges are pending but have not yet been formalized.
