Bob’s Walk set for Monday

VERNON – Despite being hospitalized for two weeks earlier this summer, a Vernon senior is once again embarking on a walk to raise proceeds for United Way.

This will be Bob Shepherd's third walk. The well known and loved 60-something man has medical and mental health issues, but he's not letting anything hold him back.

"We were worried he wasn't going to be able to do his big walk this year," Linda Yule, United Way executive director says.

Bob has raised just under $4,000 walking his 60 laps around Kal Tire Place in previous years.

"Four years ago he started walking for his health," Yule says. "He saw in the newspaper that we were struggling, and said, I want to raise funds for United Way."

He's a familiar face around town, and many businesses know him for his window washing skills.

"It's amazing what he manages to do. He's very persistent," Yule says.

Bob will be starting his walk around 8 a.m. Monday at Kal Tire Place, and be finishing around 3 p.m.

Pledges for Bob have already come in at $1,175, but his target is higher. To donate, stop by United Way on 30th Avenue, call 250-549-1346 or visit their website.
