Osoyoos police catch break and enter suspect in the act

OSOYOOS – Osoyoos RCMP caught a thief in the act earlier this week after being alerted by a neighbour.

Osoyoos RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Jason Bayda says a resident looking after his neighbour’s house said he felt the presence of an intruder while checking the residence on Aug. 27.

Police were called and found a man, well known to police for committing property crimes, upstairs in the house, he says.

Bayda says the man fled by jumping over a balcony railing. The officer pursued on foot and catching him as he attempted to get away on a stolen quad.

Oliver resident Kevin Leclerc, 49, has been charged with break and enter, theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and possession of stolen property.

Leclerc was released from custody pending a court appearance. He is bound by a nightly curfew in addition to a condition to stay out of Osoyoos.
