Man charged in Trinity Gay’s death waives case to grand jury

LEXINGTON, Ky. – One of four people charged in connection with the shooting death of Olympic sprinter Tyson Gay’s 15-year-old daughter has allowed his case to be moved to a grand jury for review.

Multiple news outlets report 21-year-old Dvonta Middlebrooks waived his right to a preliminary hearing Tuesday and let the grand jury consider the charges.

Middlebrooks is charged with wanton endangerment in the death of Trinity Gay, who was shot Oct. 16 outside a Lexington restaurant after witnesses told police that gunfire was exchanged between two vehicles. Police say Trinity Gay wasn’t in either car involved in the shooting.

Thirty-eight-year-old Chazerae Taylor; his 19-year-old son, D’Markeo Taylor; and 20-year-old Lamonte A. Williams also face the same charge.

Middlebrooks also is charged with possession of a firearm by a felon.
