Defending gold medallist MacLennan headlines Canadian Olympic gymnastic team

GATINEAU, Que. – Olympic gold medallist Rosie MacLennan headlines eight athletes nominated on Thursday to represent Canada in artistic and trampoline gymnastics at the Rio Olympic Games.

Toronto’s MacLennan is the defending Olympic gold medallist in trampoline from London 2012.

Returning Olympians Jason Burnett, the silver medallist in trampoline from Beijing 2008, Ellie Black, a triple gold medallist at the 2015 Pan Am Games and member of the fifth place women’s artistic team at London 2012, are also on the team.

Scott Morgan will make his Olympic debut in men’s artistic gymnastics while rising star Isabela Onyshko will make her debut in women’s artistic gymnastics.

Brittany Rogers, Shallon Olsen, and Rose Woo round out the team.

Black of Halifax, Onyshko of Brandon, Man., and Rogers of Coquitlam, B.C., were named to the Olympic team on Wednesday after the second day of a Rio selection camp.
