Campfire ban remains in place in B.C. for last long weekend of summer

If you plan to go camping in B.C. on this, the last long weekend of the summer, don't have a campfire.

B.C. Conservation Service says on its Facebook page officers will be patrolling campsites across the province over the Labour Day long weekend.

In the past week, officers handed out 37 tickets for wildfire act offences.

"Despite a well advertised campfire ban being in place most of the summer, some campers are choosing to light fires anyway," the post states.

People who are found violating B.C.'s wildfire act can face fines of up to $1,150.

Propane fire pits are still allowed outdoors, but open burning of any kind is strictly prohibited.
