The weather hits the fan on Sunday

There is a huge change in the weather coming Sunday night. Could it mean an end to summer in the Southern Interior?

Environment Canada has issued aSpecial Weather Statement for the South Thompson, Nicola, Shuswap and Okanagan.

The foresters are calling for a change in the sunny, warm weather.

The ridge of high pressure that has brought us a week of beautiful sunny, dry weather and record-breaking temperatures is going to break down over the weekend.

As the ridge collapses, very moist and unstable air will surge northward on Sunday. The new system will create thunderstorms with lightning, downpours, hail and gusty winds Sunday night. The nasty weather will continue through until Monday.

The thunderstorms will be replaced by a series of Pacific storms by late Tuesday. They will bring cooler air and wet weather off-and-on next week.

Environment Canada’s meteorologists predict Saturday and Sunday will be the last of the spectacular summer weather.
