B.C. man dies in rollover after truck narrowly misses cycling event
PEMBERTON, B.C. – The B.C. RCMP say a truck that went off the road, killing one occupant, narrowly missed participants in a busy cycling event.
The crash happened late Sunday morning in Pemberton, located about 150 kilometres north of Vancouver, during an event known as Slow Food Cycle Sunday, an annual bike ride focusing on local food and farming.
A news release says a truck carrying five people was in the wrong lane as it passed a number of cyclists and families before losing control, leaving the road and narrowly missing a group of cyclists.
Police say occupant in the truck was killed, while two were airlifted to a Vancouver hospital.
At least one person was thrown from the truck, but the news release didn’t clarify whether that person was the one who was killed.
The victim is a 29-year-old man from Whistler, though his name hasn’t been released.
