Victim in shooting that left gang leader dead sues alleged shooters, hotel

KELOWNA, B.C. – A woman who was paralysed in a shooting that killed one of British Columbia’s most-notorious gang leaders says she wasn’t aware the people she was with had links to gangs.

Leah Hadden-Watts has filed a lawsuit against three people she alleges were involved in the shooting, as well as the casino where the shooting took place on Aug. 14, 2011.

Hadden-Watts was shot during a daylight attack that left gang leader Jonathan Bacon dead, and wounded full-patch Hells Angel Larry Amero, James Riach of the Independent Soldiers gang, as well as another woman.

Hadden-Watts has filed a lawsuit against Jujhur Khun-Khun, Michael Jones and Jason McBride, all of whom were charged earlier this year with the first-degree murder of Bacon and the attempted murder of four people, including Hadden-Watts.

The statement of claim says Hadden-Watts was not aware that any of the people she was with that day “were involved in gang-related activities.”

Bacon and two of his brothers were repeatedly linked to a bloody gang war in the Vancouver area, with the police issuing public warnings that anyone associating with the brothers was in danger.
