Rain and cooler weather for the Okanagan this week

OKANAGAN – The Okanagan can expect a break from the hot and dry weather because lower temperatures and rain are in the forecast.

Thursday night and Friday is expected to bring rain to the Okanagan which should help wildfire crews.

Until then, however, the forecast is predicted to be mainly sunny and temperatures in the low 30s.

Today, Sept. 4, Environment Canada is calling for sunny skies and local smoke. There is still a special air quality statement in effect for the Okanagan. The daily high is expected to be around 31 Celsius. In Penticton, due to nearby wildfire activity, widespread smoke should be expected.

Tomorrow forecasters are predicting a sunny day in Kelowna and Vernon, however, there will be a mix of sun and cloud in the morning with local smoke throughout the day. Sunny skies with widespread smoke is expected for Penticton. Temperatures tomorrow will likely be around 32 C.

Wednesday will remain hot and sunny in the Okanagan, with a high of 32 C.

Thursday is expected to be sunny with a high of 31 C, however, changes begin on Thursday night with as clouds move into the Okanagan. That night there is a 70 per cent chance of showers and a low 16 C, which should help wildfire crews in the area.

The rain and clouds are expected to linger, Friday's forecast calls for more clouds with a 70 per cent chance of showers. Lower temperatures will accompany the rainy forecast because the weather office predicts a high of 24 C.

Forecasters are predicting a mix of sun and cloud on Saturday and Sunday. Environment Canada does not predict the rain to remain Friday evening or over the weekend.

Normal temperatures for this time of year are highs of 22 C and lows of 9 C.
