Wright penalty stands up as winner for Ottawa Atletico in 1-0 win over Calvary FC

OTTAWA – Brian Wright scored on a penalty kick for Ottawa Atletico in a 1-0 win over visiting Calgary Cavalry FC in the Canadian Premier League season-opener for both clubs Saturday.

Wright was awarded the penalty in the 81st minute following a Jose Escalante handball in the box.

Wright also scored Ottawa’s winning goal in last year’s home-opener.

Ottawa’s Drew Beckie was sent off and Atletico down to 10 men with about five minutes remaining in the match after the captain stomped on the foot of David Norman Jr.
