Teens injured by vehicle at pit party near Salmon Arm
TAPPEN – One teen was arrested and two others injured by a vehicle he was driving at a pit party near Tappen early this morning.
The teens were all partying the day before school started in a gravel pit in the Tappen Valley Road area when around 1 a.m., two girls were struck by a vehicle and suffered 'minor injuries', police said in a release. Police arrested a 17-year-old male suspect from Sorrento, who was driving the car in an 'erratic' manner, says Staff Sgt. Scott West of the Salmon Arm RCMP.
"The local detachment continues to investigate and investigators believe that alcohol was a contributing factor in the incident," West said.
The two 17-year-old girls went to the hospital for assessment and were released. The driver was arrested and taken to the local detachment where he was later released to his parents, West said.
He didn't say if charges were laid.
