Kamloops Search and Rescue tasked to help one of their own

KAMLOOPS – It's been a fairly quiet summer for Kamloops Search and Rescue, but during the last long weekend of the season they received a call they weren't expecting.

One of their own search and rescue team members called Sunday morning, Sept. 3, to say they were hurt and needed help.

Search manager Alan Hobler says she had been mountain biking with a friend when she sustained a knee injury.

"It was a pretty simple task for us, with the exception of it being one of our members," Hobler says. "We had a really good turnout, the location wasn’t too far away."

Hobler says it could be a lengthy recovery period for the injured member, but luckily that was her only injury.

He points out it can be hard for the people who do the rescuing to ask for help.

"A lot of us go into (search and rescue) because we’re very active outdoors and we want to do the pay it forward thing," Hobler says.

It's been a quiet summer for the Kamloops search and rescue team, and Hobler says that is likely due to backcountry closures due to the wildfire risk.
