Ex-Hab Mario Tremblay fights DUI charge

MONTREAL – Former hockey star and NHL coach Mario Tremblay faces a court date next week on a drinking-and-driving charge.

The ex-Montreal Canadien is accused of having refused to submit to a breathalyzer test in January in suburban Mascouche, Que.

He pleaded not-guilty on June 18 and his next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 28 at Mascouche’s municipal courthouse.

The 56-year-old was a gritty right-winger who scored 258 goals before his career was cut short by injury.

Later, he coached the Habs during a two-year stint behind the bench best remembered for the feud that chased Patrick Roy out of Montreal.

Although Tremblay had a winning record as a coach, the team was unsuccessful after its star goaltender was traded and Tremblay was fired soon thereafter.

In the nearly two decades since then Tremblay has served as an assistant under ex-teammate Jacques Lemaire in Minnesota and New Jersey and, more recently, he has been a hockey analyst on the RDS network.
