Kelowna breaks weather record for warm night

KELOWNA – Punctuating one of the hottest and driest summers in recent memory comes a new record: The warmest night.

Environment Canada says an overnight low temperature of 14.9 Celsius was recorded in Kelowna yesterday, Sept. 5, breaking the previous high minimum temperature record of 14.3 C set in 1995.

The combination of a strong ridge of high pressure and an insulating layer of smoke played a role in setting both new high and warm overnight temperatures records across the province yesterday, according to forecasters.
