Last evacuation alert rescinded for the Philpott Road fire

KELOWNA – The final evacuation alert for the Philpott Road fire has been rescinded.

The last of the evacuation alerts in place due to the Philpott road wildfire burning about 20 kilometres east of Kelowna in the Joe Rich area has been lifted, according to a Central Okanagan Emergency Operations media release.

That means residents can bring their farm animals back to their properties.

B.C. Wildfire says the 465 hectare blaze, which was spotted on Aug. 24, is 70 per cent contained. The fire is considered active and continues to burn in heavy timber and steep terrain.

Crews are working on control lines and are mopping up hotspots within the fire's boundaries, while specialists are assessing dangerous and damaged trees.

An area restriction for all Crown land in the vicinity of the wildfire remains in effect, Emergency Operations says. People cannot use crown land recreationally.
