Washington State wildfire threatened to cross border east of Osoyoos
OSOYOOS – A small grass fire south of Anarchist Mountain in Washington State was extinguished by American firefighters last night before it could threaten Canadian properties.
A structure fire on the American side of the border sparked the wildfire in Washington State early this morning, Sept. 13, according to a media release from the Anarchist Mountain Fire Department.
The Anarchist Moutain fire chief Urs Grob and the duty officer monitored the fire from the Canadian side of the border at Caribou Point after they were alerted to the blaze at about 2 a.m., just in case the fire spread across the 49th parallel.
American firefighters were able to contain the blaze by 5 a.m., and by 9:45 a.m. American air tankers were spotted working the blaze to prevent flair ups.
