Family members of slain B.C. senior don’t blame 95-year-old suspect
VERNON, B.C. – The sons of an 85-year-old man who died after an attack at a facility for dementia patients in the Okanagan city of Vernon, B.C., say they don’t blame the suspect and feel badly for staff members.
But Scott and Paul May say they hope similar tragedies can be prevented in the future.
Their father, Bill May, was a patient at Vernon Jubilee Hospital’s residential care facility when the incident took place Aug. 18.
Ninety-five-year-old John Furman has been charged with murder and is currently undergoing a psychiatric assessment.
The May brothers say their dad’s death was a random and tragic event driven by dementia, but they haven’t ruled out a civil action over the matter.
Furman was not present during a court appearance last week, but he’s scheduled to appear again Sept. 25. (CKIZ)
