Both drivers walk away from fiery crash on Trans Canada near Chase

KAMLOOPS – An early morning collision between a logging truck and a Honda Civic on the Trans Canada Highway west of Chase started a fire and damaged some power lines, but no one was seriously hurt.

RCMP say the logging truck and Civic sideswiped each other just before 6 a.m. today, Sept. 14, on Highway 1 about four kilometres west of Chase. The man behind the wheel of the car lost control, left the road and rolled into a field.

The logging truck went into the ditch and rolled before hitting a hydro pole, snapping the power lines and catching on fire, according to an RCMP media release.

The drivers in both the car and the truck were able to climb out of their vehicles and walk away, police say. Both drivers were taken to hospital as a precaution.

RCMP say firefighters from Kamloops and Chase worked together to extinguish the fire.

The highway was closed briefly before reopening to single lane traffic. The road will remain single lane as fire crews monitor the scene and B.C. Hydro crews repair the damaged power lines.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
