Public hearing to be held on Capri Centre redevelopment

KELOWNA – A redevelopment of the almost 60-year-old Capri Centre mall in Kelowna is in the works.

R.G. Properties has gone to city council asking for a change to the zoning so it can build 15 news buildings on the Harvey Avenue property. One of the buildings will reach 26-storeys into the sky.

In exchange for the increased density, the company plans to build a public skating rink and a public park on the site.

Councillors voted unanimously to send the rezoning application to a public hearing, which will be held on Oct. 22.

The redevelopment plans call for up to 2,200 new homes in residential towers and townhomes. There would be an open-air market on Gordon Drive.

The existing mall and hotel would stay.
