Roughriders running back Sheets named CFL offensive player of the week
TORONTO – CFL leading rusher Kory Sheets is the league’s offensive player of the week after another impressive performance.
Sheets rushed for 139 yards and two touchdowns in Saskatchewan’s 30-27 win over Edmonton on Saturday. It was the seventh time Sheets has rushed for over 130 yards in a game this season.
Sheets has rushed for 1,058 yards in eight games this year. He’s on pace to break the CFL single-season rushing record of 2,065 yards, set by Montreal’s Mike Pringle in 1998.
Sheets was also named the offensive player of the week in Week 3 and the offensive player of the month for July.
Defensive player of the week honours went to Hamilton’s Dee Webb, who returned an interception 34 yards for a touchdown while adding a tackle in the Tiger-Cats’ 37-14 win over Winnipeg.
Montreal kick returner Tyron Carrier took the special-team award, returning a fourth quarter kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown as the Alouettes beat B.C. 39-38 on a last-second field goal.
Teammate Eric Deslauriers was named top Canadian. The receiver caught four passes for 101 yards, including a 57-yard reception that set up the game-winning field goal.
