Southern Interior drivers might want to get their snow tires on

Snow is expected on some highway passes in the southern Interior today and tonight, prompting a special weather statement from Environment Canada.

A cold airmass associated with an upper low has caused freezing levels to plummet this week, forecasters say. Light snow has been falling on the Okanagan Connector, Rogers Pass and Kootenay Pass some mornings this week and is expected to continue.

Environment Canada says the threat of snow will continue today and tonight, Sept. 20. It's not certain what areas will be hardest hit, or when, but significant accumulations are expected over the Kootenay Pass.

The areas under the special weather statement include the Okanagan Connector from Merritt to Kelowna, Highway 1 from Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass, and Highway 3 from Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass.

Before you hit the road today, go to Drive B.C. to check for the latest conditions on your route.
