Summerland wildfire deemed human caused; RCMP investigating

PENTICTON – RCMP have confirmed the wildfire that started on the Princeton Summerland Road earlier this month was human caused.

The wildfire broke out in the area of Princeton Summerland Road and McLennan Road around 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 1.

B.C. Wildfire crews attacked the blaze agressively and it only grew to about 0.2 hectares in size.

RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Dan Moskaluk says police are looking into the exact cause of the fire.

"The scene examination by members of the RCMP, Summerland Fire Deptment and B.C. Wildfire Service has been completed and has enabled investigators to conclude that the fire was human caused," Moskaluk says in a media release. "Investigators are seeking information from individuals that may have witnessed activity related to the fire."

Summerland RCMP are requesting anyone who may have information about the fire, including photos or video, to contact the Summerland RCMP at 250-494-7416, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
