Okanagan Connector gets snow; flurries at Interior ski resorts

Although summer won't officially be over until tomorrow, it seems Mother Nature has skipped autumn and gone right to winter on mountain passes and ski resorts in the Southern Interior.

Overnight, snow fell on the Okanagan Connector, particularly around the Pennask Summit area. White powder now sits on trees and grass in the area.

Environment Canada released a special weather statement for the highway yesterday, Sept. 20, forecasting snowfall during the day and overnight. The special weather statement was ended earlier today.

Sun Peaks Resort near Kamloops also got some fresh powder yesterday, according to the resort's Twitter page.

It wasn't the only area mountain to get snow yesterday, Big White in Kelowna tweeted out a video of snow falling in the area.

Silver Star Mountain Resort also got a taste of winter yesterday. In Facebook post the resort officials say it went from blue skies to sideways snow, but they aren't complaining.

And in the South Okanagan, Apex Mountain Resort recieved fresh snow.

Drive B.C.'s cameras set up along the Coquihalla Highway don't show any settled snow on that highway, but the early remnants of winter in the area are a good reminder for people to get their winter tires on soon.

Come Oct. 1, winter tires are required on some B.C. highways, including the Coquihalla.
