Boomboom Ballykeel rallies past Western Vintage to win Metro Pace final

CAMPBELLVILLE, Ont. – Boomboom Ballykeel overtook favourite Western Vintage in deep stretch to capture the $683,000 Metro Pace on Saturday night.

Yannick Gingras seemed to have the 3/5 favourite comfortably ahead but Boomboom Ballykeel, a 10-1 pick, simply took off for driver Sylvain Filion to win in 1:50.4 at Mohawk Racetrack.

Some Major Beach, a 45-1 pick in the field after Arthur Blue Chip was scratched Friday due to illness, was third in the richest event for two-year-olds in North America.

Earlier, Precocious Beauty came on late to overtake Gallie Bythebeach and claim the $451,000 Shes A Great Lady for two-year-old filly pacers by a neck.

The 6/5 favourite driven by Douglas McNair earned a third straight victory in a stakes record-tying time of 1:50.2.

Later on the card was the $651,000 Canadian Pacing Derby.
