Kelowna gets help in mussels fight from across the country, thanks to Kelowna Chamber of Commerce

KELOWNA – The fight to prevent zebra and quagga mussels from invading local waters got a big boost at the Canadian Chamber annual general meeting in Fredericton, New Brunswick last week thanks to a resolution from the Kelowna contingent.

The delegation from the Kelowna Chamber of Commerce received strong support for a policy resolution calling on the federal government to increase its efforts to prevent zebra and quagga mussels from invading B.C.'s fresh waters, according to a media release.

The resolution, first passed in 2014, was about to expire, but the Kelowna Chamber delegation thought it was important enough to raise the question again.

“The federal government needs to match the dollars the province is kicking in, and they also need to institute mandatory and consistent inspections of watercraft entering Canada from the U.S.,” Kelowna Chamber executive director Dan Rogers says in the release.
