UPDATE: Flurries over Pennask Summit prompted a special weather statement

THOMPSON OKANAGAN – There is a special weather statement in effect for the Okanagan Connector because of flurries over Pennask Summit which are expected to continue today and tonight, according to an Environment Canada release issued today, Oct. 1.

Snow levels are hovering around 1600 metres which are expected to bring periodic flurries to the Pennask Summit on the Okanagan Connector and the Kootenay Pass. Environment Canada expects a major storm over the prairies on Monday which will spread more organized precipitation over southeastern BC. The forecast for Highway 5 near the Kootenay Pass is five centimetres of snow which is expected to taper off early Monday evening.

Because conditions in the mountains can change suddenly, hazardous driving conditions can result.

More information about road conditions is available at Drive B.C.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ec.tempetepacifique-pacificstorm.ec@canada.ca or tweet reports using #BCStorm.
