National parks affected by government shutdown

MEDORA, N.D. – North Dakota’s national parks are being affected by the partial federal government shutdown.

The National Park Service says Fort Union Trading Post National Historic Site is mostly closed. Roads, lookouts, and trails at Theodore Roosevelt National Park and Knife River Indian Villages National Historic Site are accessible, but emergency and rescue services will be limited.

There are no visitor services at all North Dakota national park sites including public information, restrooms, trash collection, and facilities and roads maintenance.

Wednesday is the first full business day after several government departments and agencies closed up over the weekend due to a budgetary stalemate between President Donald Trump and Congress. There is no end in sight.
