Kamloops company makes its Dragons’ Den debut this week
KAMLOOPS – A Kamloops woman who has been designing athletic wear and tackling a tough subject will appear on the small screen this week.
Monique Vek, who owns M Sport 6, says she and her son Kyle Flux will be on the Thursday, Oct. 5, episode of the TV show "Dragons' Den" pitching their breathable athletic wear, which is also aimed at helping women going through menopause deal with hot flashes.
Vek and her family flew to Toronto earlier this year to try out for the show.
M Sport 6 was created by Vek about three years ago, when the equestrian found wearing a western shirt while riding in the summer was too hot, and thought she would be more comfortable in her cycling jersey.
After athletes from non-equestrian sports started purchasing the breathable athletic wear, she also discovered women were purchasing the shirts to help them deal with menopause.
"Women had hot flashes and used the shirts for that," Vek told iNFOnews.ca in April. "I’m thinking, just business-wise – what a wicked market."
Vek said the shirts are still marketed as athletic wear and always will be, but she hopes bringing the idea of menopausal wear to TV will help break the stigma.
The episode of "Dragons' Den" Vek will be appearing in airs at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 5 on CBC television.
